The food stamp program is a federally funded benefit program that is very beneficial to those individuals that live at or below the national poverty level.

Food stamps provide a piece of mind and comfort to those individuals and moms that could not otherwise provide or afford the nutritional foods they need for themselves and their family to flourish. The largest group of food stamp participants is single mothers.

Being a single mother is a hard enough job in itself without having to worry about how you can put food on your table. The most common question asked about the food stamp program is how to apply for food stamps. It is a rather simple application process.

How To Apply For Food Stamps

The application process is very easy and there are two ways you can apply for benefits. One way to apply is by going into your local food stamp office or social security office and picking up an application.

With the age of the internet that we are presently in, you can also apply for everything right from the comfort of your own home on your computer. Some states tell you instantly whether you qualify or not when you apply online. You will still be required to go into the office and show the necessary paperwork though before your benefits will start.

The applications process is rather quick and self explanatory. You must meet the income requirements and everyone you are applying for must have a valid social security number.

You will also be asked to verify every source of income that you have with work pay stubs, receipts, or written letters from those helping to support you and your family.

You will learn if you are eligible for the program within a maximum of 30 days from the date your application process was started.

The food stamp program not only offers money for nutritional needs, but they also offer many different types of classes. My local food stamp office offers great educational classes for single mothers.

These programs will help you to meet other moms in your area that are going through the same difficulties you are and will help you bond with the counselors and other single mothers grants that you might not otherwise had a chance to meet. A trip to your local office will only be beneficial to you and will provide you useful information.
